Straight after the May 2006 Council elections, Golborne councillors began supporting residents battling to stop Kensington and Chelsea's Tory Council closing Edenham Old People’s Home, its Day Centreand the Little Housein Oxford
Gardens that offers respite care to children with disabilities. Conservative Party leader, David Cameron, was invited to visit both, but refused. The closure made ITN News when Tony Benn visited Edenham.
The Tories are also considering selling off Trellick Towerand other North Kensington estates to avoid paying for repairs and maintenance works the TMO says it cannot afford. The electorate were told nothing about these plans before the elections.
The Tories are also refusing to maximise the provision of affordable housing on available land and developments, which means developers can build obscenely expensive luxury flats with only a tiny proportion of affordable units. With 10,000 families on the Council's housing register waiting for housing, and severe over-crowding in the existing stock, the need for more affordable housing is urgent.
Golborne councillor Emma Dent Coad said, " We will fight for every new development to have the maximum possible allocation for local people. This is not negotiable.”
